Sojourning Arts

Elisa is a self-taught artist born in Cape Verde and raised the United States. As a child of the African diaspora, their work draws deeply from the rich heritage of their cultural roots and personal journey. Specializing in traditional portraiture, Elisa blends human expression with botanical and earth elements, creating pieces that feel both intimate and universal. She strives to portray the connection between body, spirit and earth, using a variety of mediums to create dynamic portraiture, ranging in acrylic, to watercolor, gouache, and oil paints. Each work tells a story of identity, resilience, and spirit, celebrating the beauty of life and the landscapes that shape it. Her art is a testament to the power of self-discovery and the enduring influence of cultural resistance and liberation.
